Brand New: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Monitor presents :
The Badge Project
(How to get out of Leeds City Centre in a day)
Monitor wish to commission eight artists to produce a set of limited edition badges for a specific area of Leeds. The project forms part of Situation Leeds, Festival of Art in the Public Realm.
Each artist will be allocated a postcode area on the periphery of Leeds city centre, e.g. LS5/LS6/LS7, and will have a period of six weeks during which to engage with and research the area. The research will result in a set of badges that will encapsulate the artist’s investigations and experience of their allocated area.
The badges will be sold during Situation Leeds. Each badge design will only be available from the postcode area for which it was produced, encouraging festival goers to travel beyond the confines of Leeds city centre in order to collect a full set of badges.
Each artist will be asked to contribute to a weblog, recording their findings and experiences of the project. This will coincide with the launch of the new Monitor website.
The project is open to both Leeds-based and non Leeds-based artists and a small artist’s fee is available to cover some expenses. However we are unfortunately not able to fund repeated, long distance travel.
To apply, please send a brief C.V. or artist statement and up to five images of previous work to:
